About The Position

Responsible for performing proper specimen collection, primarily blood specimens. This role also involves sample processing, reference sample processing, and inventory management of drawing station supplies. Clerical duties may also be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy Training (Diploma or Certificate) and/or successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or equivalent training and experience.
  • 1 Year of phlebotomy experience.
  • Capable of performing the procedures required for proper patient care.
  • Good communication skills: understand, respond, and translate into action.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform proper specimen collection, primarily blood specimens.
  • Process samples and reference samples.
  • Manage inventory of drawing station supplies.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Accurately and precisely follow established office and laboratory procedures.
  • Organize work to minimize patient waiting time for specimen collection.
  • Perform blood collection duties in a timely manner to ensure test result availability.
  • Provide appropriate instructions to patients and perform other specimen collections as requested by a physician.
  • Appropriately label all patient specimens with patient name, chart number, requesting physician's name, date and time specimen collected, and name of test required.
  • Deliver and/or process specimens in a timely manner (e.g., centrifuge, prepare specimen and paperwork for reference laboratory courier, aliquot and refrigerate for later batch testing, or immediately notify appropriate testing personnel of STAT requests).
  • Collect blood samples in appropriate tubes.
  • Assist nursing personnel in specimen collection if needed.
  • Receive phone calls from nurses, doctors, and reference laboratories.
  • Inventory and order supplies.
  • Demonstrate a positive image of the clinic by providing caring and concerned service to the public.
  • Respect patient record confidentiality and use discretion when discussing patient results/matters.
  • Deal with priorities in an appropriate manner.
  • Perform work within established laboratory safety and infection control policies and procedures, including infection control and chemical hazard procedures for self, patient, and clinic personnel protection.
  • Maintain predictable and consistent attendance.
