About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Phlebotomist to join their team in Nashville, Tennessee. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood specimens, accessioning and labeling them, registering patients, and operating the LIS. This role requires good communication skills, the ability to work under high stress, and knowledge of patient care across all age groups (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics). The position involves fundamental awareness of specimen collection, quality assurance, and phlebotomy, with a novice level of customer service skills. Responsibilities

  • Collecting venous and capillary whole blood specimens
  • Chain of Custody urine and venous blood specimens
  • Accessioning, labeling, procuring specimens for testing and transport
  • Registering patients and placing or deleting test orders in EMR/LIS, operation of LIS
  • Assisting technologists and Administrative Laboratory Director with laboratory operation as requested and where appropriate as checked competent
