About The Position

Performs venipuncture and collects other specimens for laboratory testing. Label specimen containers accurately, deliver to proper destination in a timely manner and perform order entry duties as required. Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric. Compliance: understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

HS Diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Program
Ability to draw an average of 7 patients per hour within the first 90 days of employment
Proficient in the use of Laboratory Information System within the first 90 days of employment
ASCP eligible
BLS certification
Ability to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information
Dependable transportation (including inclement weather)
Ability to withstand the stress and demands of an active position
Ability to withstand constant standing, walking, stooping, and bending
Ability to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations
Ability to work as a team member and interact positively with others
Ability to work at optimum speed with accuracy and efficiency
Ability to take directions and respond quickly and efficiently
Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds may be required
Moderate chemical exposure
Sensitive touch for locating veins, manual dexterity and coordination required for drawing blood
Vision requirements: must be able to pass a color vision test
Hearing within normal range required in daily work
