Phlebotomist – MDC Los Angeles Work Location Bureau of Prisons Metropolitan Detention Center-Los Angeles 535 North Alameda Street Los Angeles, CA 90012 Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints & Drug Screen. Type of Employment: Part-Time, 32 hours per week. Estimated Period of Performance: June 1, 2026 - May 31, 2031 Estimate Pay: $28.73 per hour. Paid Time Off: Up to 80 hours per year, which starts accruing on the day of hire. Benefits Offered: Vision/Health/Dental. Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, which starts occurring on the day of hire. Paid Federal Holidays : Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays. Working Hours The Phlebotomist will normally work Monday through Friday, 6:00 am – 4:00, six (6) hours per day, five (5) days per week, with a 30-minute lunch break. The Phlebotomist will not work more than 32 hours a week. Summary of Duties The Phlebotomist will provide Phlebotomy Services for the prison population at the Metropolitan Detention Center-Los Angeles, Bureau of Prisons. This includes, but is not limited to, the collection of blood and urine samples, the preparation and tracking of all laboratory samples, the biological specimen preparation and packaging for shipment, and the maintenance of laboratory logs and other records as necessary to comply with Clinical Laboratory Inspection Amendment (CLIA) guidelines. Qualifications Individual must have graduated from an accredited school or program and be a Certified Phlebotomist/Laboratory Technician or qualified Medical Assistant. Minimum of one (1) year of experience. Experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories, with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records, must be shown on the resume. Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA). Copies of all certifications and resumes must be forwarded with your application. Attire The Phlebotomist must always wear appropriate professional attire suitable for the work environment. Uniform will consist of Navy, Royal, or Ceil Blue scrubs, which may be worn with the approval of MDC-Los Angeles. The Phlebotomist is prohibited from wearing khaki, green, or yellow clothing of any type, as this is the color of clothing the Adults in Custody (AIC) Population wears.
