About The Position

A-Team Solutions is seeking one Phlebotomist for a part-time PRN floating position between the Clermont VA clinic and Tavares VA clinic. Shifts are weekdays only. This role involves performing phlebotomy and urine specimen collection on a range of patients, including those who may be difficult to draw from. The Phlebotomist will obtain venous blood specimens using appropriate techniques and materials, select phlebotomy sites based on patient condition and test requirements, and prepare sites for collection. The position also includes assisting in training other personnel, performing specimen processing procedures (centrifugation, splitting specimens), conducting glucose tolerance testing, and assisting with room disinfection. The Phlebotomist will also handle patient interactions, including addressing patient conditions like fainting or illness, and communicating with medical staff. A key aspect of the role is conveying procedures to patients with empathy and understanding.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Certified phlebotomy training program.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in phlebotomy in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Experience with accessioning of laboratory specimens.
  • Experience with processing of laboratory specimens.
  • Capable of reading standard operating procedures and adhering them to the current laboratory processes.
  • Communicate clearly the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service.
  • Computer literate.
  • BLS (American Heart Association)

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture) and urine specimen collection on patients.
  • Obtains venous blood specimens from adults using knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic technique, and phlebotomy material selection.
  • Uses judgment in selection of phlebotomy site based upon the patient's condition, age group, and type of test to be performed.
  • Prepares phlebotomy site for proper specimen collection.
  • Assists in training other personnel (employees and student trainees) in proper phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques.
  • Performs processing procedures (centrifugation, splitting specimens into aliquots).
  • Performs glucose tolerance testing by administering pretest substances, drawing blood at specific time intervals.
  • Assists in disinfecting and closing the Phlebotomy Room at the end of the shift.
  • Contacts Medical Staff in handling patients in cases of fainting, convulsions, and illness.
  • Conveys to the patient the intention of performing a phlebotomy while showing understanding and empathy for the patient's condition.
