About The Position

This is a per diem role offering flexible shifts scheduled between 6:30 AM and 8:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. The position involves collecting clinical laboratory specimens, performing tasks related to patient registration, order entry, and specimen processing with general supervision. It also includes performing waived testing with general supervision, providing logistical support to team members, and offering general assistance to customers. The role requires performing venipunctures, collecting other specimens, and explaining proper collection procedures. Clarifying orders and pre-analytical test requirements, performing registration, requisitions lab orders, and verifying billing information are also key duties. Processing, storing, and transporting specimens according to laboratory requirements, actively promoting HNL Lab Medicine’s values, and exhibiting excellent customer relations are expected. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of specimen requirements and collection devices, maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies, and ensuring a meticulous work area are also part of the responsibilities. The role includes assisting in the orientation, training, and mentoring of new staff members, participating in Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs, and properly recording and documenting necessary expense reimbursement. On-call and mobile service may be required, along with travel to sites within 25 miles of the base location for coverage. Per diem work is determined by departmental needs and employee availability, with flexibility being an expectation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software.
  • Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant. Certification will be provided if needed.

Responsibilities
