Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed. Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization. Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs). Follows policies and procedures for the Clinical Laboratory and the hospital. Completes duties in a time-efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients. Demonstrates the value of team concept on a consistent basis. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary. Requires minimal supervision in performance of job duties. Maintains BAC certification. Performs random, accident, and new hire drug screens. Maintains proficiency in outpatient phlebotomy, and assists as needed. Answers the phone. Follow up on phone calls and direct them to the correct department, when appropriate. Prints future orders from Matrix and enters them into Cerner. Obtains registration for orders taken from Matrix. Enters stat orders from Matrix to Cerner. Prints Matrix pending at set intervals depending on the shift. Ensures all labs are completed based of the pending list (Cerner and Matrix). Enters orders for any specimen received. Appropriately handles all ABN’s generated from the nursing home. Faxing results for STAT orders. Any other clerical work as needed by the department. Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible. Identifies the patient – comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s identification band before venipunctures is performed and also by using second identifier. Disposes all sharps in a rigid sharps’ container. Cleans and supplies venipuncture trays. Correctly label all specimens. Logs specimens into the computer accurately. Is knowledgeable about which tube to use and the volume of blood needed- knows test requirements. Follows Universal Precautions at all times. Follows Code of Conduct policy. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled. Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission statement of the organization. Always treat others in a friendly, helpful manner. Refers co-workers to proper sources when unable to provide an answer. Interacts with others in a professional and friendly manner.
