About The Position

Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role involves educating new donors, maintaining equipment, and ensuring accurate record-keeping in a fast-paced environment. The phlebotomist must be vigilant for donor reactions and troubleshoot equipment failures, while adhering to all safety and confidentiality protocols.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 6 months’ experience as a phlebotomist.
Ability to complete routine forms or conduct routine oral communications.
Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions.
Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
High level of manual dexterity.
Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience as a phlebotomist is preferable.
Minimum twelve (12) months of experience in a medical or health care environment preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect, in compliance with SOPs.
Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, adhering to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
Evaluate vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems and make necessary corrections to ensure product quality and donor safety.
Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products, the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and nutrition.
Answer all donor questions timely, accurately, and professionally.
Maintain alertness to any donor reactions and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff.
Use Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
Perform calibrations and verify maintenance as outlined in SOPs.
Respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, and remove/replace equipment from service.
Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of donor flow issues.
Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs.
Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
Promote safety in all actions.
Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
