About The Position

Carroll County Memorial Hospital’s role is to improve the health and well-being of the residents and visitors to Carroll County and surrounding counties, by providing quality, compassionate, cost effective and convenient health care through community leadership and in collaboration with other healthcare organizations which serve our communities. This is a Part-Time Hourly Position, working Friday and Saturday from 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The Phlebotomist will process specimens/test orders on inpatients and outpatients and referred specimens, provide test results and/or other information, and perform selected laboratory procedures including phlebotomy and/or specimen testing for patients across all age groups. The role also involves adhering to compliance guidelines, computer competency, infection control and safety policies, managing supplies, verifying specimen identification, reporting results, performing quality control and maintenance, performing phlebotomy functions, ensuring timely submission of patient records, and completing technical competencies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or its equivalent
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, patients, physicians, and visitors

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Processes specimens/test orders on inpatients and outpatients and referred specimens
  • Provides test results and/or other information
  • Performs selected laboratory procedures including phlebotomy and/or specimen testing for patients aged neonatal/infant, pediatric, adolescent up to 19 years, adult, geriatric (65 years or greater)
  • Assumes responsibility for following compliance guidelines with federal, state and local regulations within the department.
  • Consistently demonstrates competency in computer use in all functions.
  • Adheres to all infection control and safety policies and procedures, both hospital wide and department/section specific.
  • Demonstrates initiative in receiving and stocking supplies
  • Verifies specimen identification at each stage of processing
  • Identifies discrepancies in specimen identification and follows up according to departmental policy and procedure
  • Accurately reports all results according to policy and procedure
  • Performs and documents quality control
  • Performs and documents corrective action when tests, equipment, or instrument quality control is unacceptable.
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibrations on instruments as required by the policy and procedure
  • Performs phlebotomy functions according to policy and procedure.
  • Ensures patient records are submitted or faxed to appropriate agency in a timely manner.
  • Completes all required technical competencies in designated time frame according to policy and procedure.
