About The Position

Vitruvian Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform laboratory specimen collection procedures accurately and efficiently. This role involves collecting specimens from patients of all age groups across the hospital, ensuring proper identification and labeling. The Phlebotomist must be skilled in venipunctures, capillary punctures, and heel sticks, and knowledgeable about various needles and devices. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a caring attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. In addition to specimen collection, the Phlebotomist will handle clerical duties such as faxing, answering phones, operating the pneumatic tube system, and computer work for registering and ordering reference labs. Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or validation of higher level education (technical college, associate, bachelor, or master’s degree). Diploma or transcripts are required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of various needles and devices.
  • Ability to work individually and as a team with technical staff and outside customers.
  • Good communication skills when dealing with patients and/or visitors.
  • Caring and giving attitude.
  • Ability to keep hospital and patient information confidential at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Some phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • 2 years of laboratory experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Certification as a phlebotomist is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory specimen collection procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Obtain specimens from properly identified patients (two identifiers: name and date of birth) including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform venipunctures, capillary punctures, and heel sticks.
  • Label specimens properly (patient name, date of birth, date, time of collection, and phlebotomist initials) in the presence of the patient.
  • Handle fast-paced, stressful, and multitasking work environments.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and lab technical staff.
  • Perform clerical duties including faxing, answering phones, running the pneumatic tube system, and computer work for registration and ordering reference labs.
  • Maintain hospital and patient information confidentiality at all times.
