This role requires a strong understanding of specimen collection techniques, with a keen eye for detail regarding specimen requirements and proper labeling. The phlebotomist must also understand the importance of patient/hospital confidentiality and be familiar with hospital regulations and schedules. Teamwork and cooperation with other hospital departments are essential. Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to the laboratory and handling of patient reports is necessary. Excellent communication skills are required for courteous and professional interactions with patients, hospital staff, and via telephone.
