Responsible for performing patient blood collections and employee drug screenings. Conducts specimen registration, receiving, sorting, and storage to ensure accurate laboratory processing. Ensures proper identification and handling of all specimens. Maintains compliance with laboratory protocols and regulatory standards. Supports efficient workflow and quality assurance within the laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area
  • 2-5 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
  • All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
  • Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certified

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy and glucose meter testing according to established procedures.
  • Identifies patients accurately prior to specimen collection and testing.
  • Explains blood collection procedures to patients before and during the process.
  • Collects and handles drug screening and breath alcohol testing for Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Receives, validates, processes, and prepares all specimens for reference laboratories, including order entry and proper packaging.
  • Maintains specimen collection area and equipment for efficient workflow and processing.
  • Documents and follows up on specimen integrity issues, manages specimen rejections, and reviews uncollected and unreceived logs.
  • Manages inventory for all reference laboratories.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
