About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team! This role involves ordering, collecting, processing routine and specialty testing, and returning results back to doctors. The Phlebotomist will also obtain and process doctor's orders, perform data entry, and provide excellent customer service via phone and in person to patients, doctors, and other medical staff. The position requires the ability to work well under pressure, collect blood samples with proper patient identification and labeling, and follow hospital policies for sample transport. Additionally, the role includes performing CLIA waived moderate testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or higher.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Phlebotomy course or phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
  • The ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must understand medical terminology.
  • General Math skills.
  • Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments.
  • Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.
  • Good communication skills, and ability to work well with others.
  • Team player and flexible.
  • Can work well under pressure and meet multiple and competing deadlines.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Can recognize and understand the complexity and reflex-testing of laboratory complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Order, collect, process routine and specialty testing, and return results back to doctor.
  • Obtain, process doctors orders, and data entry.
  • Provide good customer service on the phone, to patients, doctors and other medical staff.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Collect blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling samples.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory.
  • Perform CLIA waived moderate testing.
  • Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory.
  • Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies.
  • Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
  • Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
  • Provides age appropriate care.
  • Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents.
  • Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
  • Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
  • Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships with a wide range of organizations and specialists.
  • Maintain effective working relationships between nursing, clerical, medical and allied health staff.
  • Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
  • Organize requisitions received for collection.
  • Maintains records of tests performed.
  • Scanning orders and lab results into electronic medical system, print and fax lab reports to ordering doctor.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.
