About The Position

Hillsdale Hospital is seeking a casual Phlebotomist to join their team. This role involves obtaining blood samples through venipuncture and skin puncture, instructing patients on various collection procedures, labeling specimens, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining laboratory operating procedures, managing supplies, and performing receptionist duties at the outpatient lab. As a casual employee, hours will vary based on departmental needs, with specific shifts on Saturdays from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm, which include a Saturday premium of an additional $2.00/hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required from an accredited institution.
• BLS certification (available through Hillsdale Hospital).

Nice To Haves

• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred but not required.
• ASCP certification desirable.
• Previous phlebotomy experience in healthcare setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Uses appropriate techniques and procedures to obtain blood samples by venipuncture and skin puncture.
• Instruct patients on proper collection procedures for urine collection, stool collection, and other miscellaneous collections.
• Correctly labels all specimens and checks for quality.
• Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients.
• Maintains laboratory operating procedures.
• Orders and distributes supplies as needed along with notifying appropriate individual when supplies are low.
• Performs receptionist duties at the front desk of the outpatient lab.
