About The Position

The Alan B. Miller Medical Center is a new, state-of-the-art hospital that will be part of UHS's growing regional network. It will feature 150 private patient rooms, a medical office building, and a helistop, totaling 365,000 square feet of hospital and medical office space. The Medical Center will offer comprehensive medical services including Emergency Care, Orthopedics and Surgical Services, Oncology, Cardiovascular and Neurosurgical services, as well as outpatient services. The Phlebotomist position is part-time, working nights from 1:00 am to 8:30 am. The role involves obtaining blood specimens from patients, requiring proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture, and adherence to laboratory policies for patient identification and specimen handling. The phlebotomist will provide care to patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatrics. Cross-training in additional roles and floating to other departments may be required. Additionally, the phlebotomist must recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke, initiate a stroke alert, and draw blood for stroke panels on stroke alert patients, delivering specimens to the laboratory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and Technical School.
  • 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification required within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Applied Science or AS degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining blood specimens from patients.
  • Proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture.
  • Follow laboratory policy on proper identification of patients and handling of obtained specimen.
  • Provide care to patients, from neonates to geriatrics.
  • Willing to cross-train in additional roles and float to other departments to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead.
  • Verbalize stroke alert process.
  • Draw blood for stroke panel and deliver specimens to laboratory on stroke alert patients.
