The Phlebotomist - Vascular Access Technician obtains quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods for all age groups, adhering strictly to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. The position involves working at Mayo Clinic Hospital across two campuses (Rochester Methodist Campus - RMC and St. Mary’s Campus - SMC) in various patient care areas including general patient care, pediatrics, the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, and Operating Rooms. Responsibilities include accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, handling, transportation, and testing using Point of Care (POC) equipment. The role requires proficiency with computer programs/systems and maintaining patient confidentiality. Excellent customer relations and communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction. A positive and professional demeanor is expected, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Skills in fast-paced environments, coping, understanding instructions, organization, prioritization, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making are necessary. The role involves pushing a cart and walking distances. Additionally, the position includes assisting with training students and new employees. Individuals hired for this position must complete two years in the role before being eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. Visa sponsorship is not available, and this position does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
