Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent
Experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc.
Formal Phlebotomy training

Responsibilities

Performs venipuncture on patients in all age groups resulting in patient satisfaction.
Properly initials and /or prepares specimens following the specimen handling procedures.
Promptly and appropriately prepares specimens and forwards them to the work area/reference lab within established time guidelines.
Accurately validates and transcribes patient orders.
Rejects specimens after consultation with testing personnel.
Maintains orders and inventories supplies to ensure appropriate par levels of supplies, thereby minimizing emergency orders.
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
Other related duties as required.
Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
Complies with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
