About The Position

The Phlebotomist is responsible for the accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practices. This role aims to enhance patient and caregiver engagement through experienced collection methods. The position functions as part of a dynamic team in various medical environments, from fast-paced hospitals to high/low volume clinics. Caregivers in this role will possess valuable experience and knowledge, bringing a higher level of expertise to laboratory services. The Phlebotomist performs specimen collection using techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections from patients of various acuities, including Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient settings (newborns, intensive care, etc.). They are at the forefront of patient care, adhering to and enforcing standards for laboratory compliance and safety regulations, including personal protective equipment requirements. Intermountain Caregivers in this role will communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members, demonstrating empathy. Opportunities for growth and skill development include patient/client registrations, participation in CODE response teams, training as a clinical coach or preceptor, specimen processing, participation in special projects, quality assurance processes, waived testing, technical writing, downtime planning, and continuous improvement projects. Other laboratory responsibilities may be assigned. This position requires organizational skills, the ability to navigate multiple computer systems, teamwork, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Candidates are expected to be resilient and manage stressful situations professionally. The role also requires the ability to take on-call shifts and participate in holiday rotations. Advanced collection and troubleshooting techniques may be performed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, Preferred.
• Twelve months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor, Preferred.

• Ability to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
• Ability to push/pull gurneys and portable equipment.

• Ability to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
• For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing.
