This position provides phlebotomy services for the hospital or off-site locations. The role involves performing venipunctures, heel punctures, and capillary sticks using specified techniques to ensure patient and employee safety, while maintaining specimen integrity for quality test results. Additionally, the role includes collecting other laboratory specimens as designated by procedure, triaging incoming specimens, accessioning, labeling, and distributing them appropriately. Data entry for specimen identification and accessioning, organizing workload, prioritizing orders, and troubleshooting order issues, specimen collections, and rejection protocols are also key functions. The professional is expected to maintain a professional appearance, wear identification badges, and actively contribute to keeping the facility and work area tidy. Customer service is paramount, involving prompt, courteous service to inpatients and outpatients, active listening, and seeking assistance when needed. Promoting patient safety goals by reporting errors and near misses, and following established protocols for patient identification, specimen collection, and labeling is essential. The role requires a commitment to team values, supporting colleagues, developing good working relationships, and contributing to problem-solving. Meeting attendance standards, following staffing policies, and demonstrating flexibility in scheduling are also expected.
