About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Phlebotomist PRN to join their team in Nashville, Tennessee. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting specimens, accessioning and labeling them, registering patients, and assisting with laboratory operations as needed. This position serves all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Phlebotomy (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with phlebotomy.
  • Quality Assurance (Fundamental Awareness): Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and individual performance by making the products and services within your work assignments more efficient and more effective. Demonstrates quality management practices on the job which result in superior products and services delivered.
  • Specimen Collection (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with specimen collection.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting venous and capillary whole blood specimens
  • Chain of Custody urine and venous blood specimens
  • Accessioning, labeling, procuring specimens for testing and transport
  • Registering patients and placing or deleting test orders in EMR/LIS, operation of LIS
  • Assisting technologists and Administrative Laboratory Director with laboratory operation as requested and where appropriate as check competent
