About The Position

Minneapolis and Greater Minneapolis — Phlebotomist/Phlebotomy openings are available for Phlebotomist II, Phlebotomy Technician, and Sr. Phlebotomy Technician. These positions require 1 year of phlebotomy experience, with the Sr. Phlebotomy Technician role also requiring 1 year of pediatrics experience and involving travel. Positions are available in various Minneapolis and surrounding locations, with shifts varying between 6:30 AM and 8:30 PM. The pay range is $24.00 - $29.00 per hour, dependent on the selected position and influenced by relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Requirements

  • 1 year of phlebotomy experience required (Phlebotomist II, Phlebotomy Technician, Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • 1 year of pediatrics experience required (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects. The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 15 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 16 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried occasionally and objects in the weight range of 26 to 40 pounds are seldom lifted and carried. Objects exceeding 41 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
  • Position requires travel.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood and/or perform POC as assigned
  • Cleans and re-stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays.
  • Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing.
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques.
  • Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames.
  • Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested.
  • Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
  • Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
  • Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor
  • Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
  • Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if falls out range to group leader or supervisor.
  • Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing, as needed, at Health fair sand PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the clinics Organizational Competencies.
  • Regular contact with clinic personnel, patients and visitors.
  • Prepares staff schedule to provide adequate coverage and updates changes daily (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Ensures equitable distribution of workload. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues with technicians, clinic staff etc. as needed in conjunction with the Supervisor. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Monitors to ensure work is being performed efficiently. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Establishes in conjunction with the Supervisor an onboarding program for new employees. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Performs phlebotomy and POC testing as needed. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Maintains drawing and POC testing carts/trays with necessary supplies. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Maintains all necessary supplies and places orders in a timely fashion. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Displays need for cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and materials. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Sorts timed specimen requisitions and distribute them according to unit assignments as necessary. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
  • Obtain specimens, requisitions, draw blood or perform POC tests as needed. (Sr. Phlebotomy Technician)
