The Lab Phlebotomist – Ambulatory performs venipuncture, skin puncture, EKG, point of care testing, and registration in the ambulatory setting. Demonstrates excellent communication and patient care skills. The Ambulatory Phlebotomy team services the South Clinic Lab, Heart and Vascular Institute Lab, and Curtis, Windsor, Rantoul, and Mahomet Labs. This team serves patients from newborn to geriatric in the outpatient setting. The Ambulatory team collects blood specimens for diagnostic testing, provides patients with collection containers and instructions, and performs EKGs and several point of care tests in the outpatient setting. The Ambulatory Phlebotomists collect blood from approximately 50-200 patients per business day dependent on lab location. Ambulatory Phlebotomists work every second or third Saturday at South Clinic Lab and cover 1-2 call shifts each week.
