Under the leadership of the department Director, Oncology, the Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant is an active member of the Oncology team that collects data and provides comfort measures and care to patients. The Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant is responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture or micro techniques and facilitates transportation of the laboratory specimens. The Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant is responsible for providing care that is appropriate for the patient’s developmental age and is culturally sensitive. The Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant formulates an appropriate plan for care and analyzes the effectiveness of interventions while effectively interacting with patients, families, and other medical office staff members. The Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant maintains standards of professional nursing.
