About The Position

The Rheumatology Center of Excellence within Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is looking for a Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant. This role involves a variety of tasks including specimen collection and laboratory duties, clinical support, and administrative/clerical functions to ensure the smooth operation of the center and provide excellent patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or completed a Phlebotomy Program Experience.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Professionalism interacting with a diverse group of people, personalities, and cultures.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.

  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting blood, urine, and other samples.
  • Obtaining and understanding specimen and test information.
  • Documenting physician orders as required.
  • Retrieving orders, requisitions, and labels from EMR for accurate collection and labeling of specimens.
  • Processing samples by centrifugation, pipetting, aliquoting, and slide preparation as required by receiving clinical and research laboratories.
  • Preparing specimens for transport to lab.
  • Performing POC testing for CLIA-waived tests.
  • Obtaining vital signs, weight checks and general patient-comfort needs.
  • Recording medications, allergies, and other medical history.
  • Refilling medications, obtain prior authorizations, scan and copy medical records, route referrals, and perform other patient care management tasks as assigned.
  • Transporting patients and assisting staff with moving patients with wheelchairs.
  • Maintaining accurate records, documents and files as required for both clinical and research databases.
  • Assisting with clerical duties such as answering phones, preparing charts, charge entry, assessing and verifying patient test requests and billing information.
  • Restocking rooms and supply areas as needed.
  • Providing patient results to physician offices, as necessary.
  • Fielding patient phone calls and messages and liaise between patients, providers, and other patient care facilities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
