About The Position

This role is responsible for training new employees in phlebotomist duties, including BAT and DOT collections. The individual will ensure staff maintain BAT and DOT certifications, manage BAT machine calibration and maintenance, and order necessary supplies for BAT and UDS collections. They will also be responsible for maintaining collection forms and results, staying updated on current DOT regulations, and ensuring collection facilities comply with these guidelines. The position involves following up on Occupational Health drug screen results to ensure timely delivery to companies and conducting annual phlebotomist staff competency assessments. Under the supervision of a Medical Technologist or MLT, the role includes obtaining and preparing specimens for analysis and performing various screening tests. Key duties involve collecting venous and capillary blood samples using various techniques, receiving, processing, and distributing laboratory specimens, and stocking supplies. The phlebotomist must possess the knowledge and skills to provide care across all age groups and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and medical staff. This includes verifying patient identification, providing instructions, taking safety precautions, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Additional tasks may include order entry on LIS (CPSI), filing and scanning results, temperature checks, disinfecting work areas, and inventory management. The role requires adherence to Chambers Health appearance standards, maintaining a professional and cooperative attitude, and utilizing the Service Excellence model. Commitment to professional growth through training and education is essential, as is maintaining compliance with all Chambers Health standards, business conduct policies, and federal, state, and local regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to work out of any Chambers Health location as needed. Locations are in Anahuac, Dayton & Mont Belvieu.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Requires strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for training new employees for phlebotomist duties including BAT and DOT collection
  • Keep up with Laboratory staff BAT and DOT certification.
  • Responsible for BAT machine calibration.
  • Responsible for BAT machine maintenance.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies for BAT and UDS collection supplies for DOT and Non- DOT collection.
  • Keep up with all BAT and UDS collection forms and results for the required amount of time.
  • Keep up with current DOT regulations to make sure we are updated.
  • Check all collection facilities to make sure they are following current DOT guidelines.
  • Follow up on all Occupational Health drug screen results.
  • Responsible for making sure the companies get their results on time.
  • Responsible for annual phlebotomist staff competency.
  • Under the direct supervision of A Medical Technologist or MLT, he/she will obtain and prepare specimen for analysis and perform various screening tests as indicated.
  • Responsible for the collection of venous and capillary blood samples using various techniques (i.e., syringe, heel stick, venipuncture, fingerstick).
  • Receive, process and distribute laboratory specimens, distribute departmental paperwork, and stock supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population as it affects phlebotomy.
  • Required to maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with patients, patient’s families, medical staff and other hospital personnel.
  • Verify patient identification at bedside, giving instruction to patients when needed, taking safety precautions during the handling of specimens and blood collections.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by Laboratory Management within their scope of training such as order entry on LIS (CPSI), filing of results, scanning of results to CPSI and ECW as needed, temperature check and recording.
  • Disinfecting work area and phlebotomy trays.
  • Inventory check on phlebotomy and collection supplies.
  • File all paperwork according to laboratory procedures. Laboratory records are maintained for two years.
  • Adhere to all Chambers Health appearance standards and always maintain a professional dress while working.
  • Maintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers. Is responsive to customer needs.
  • Uses Service Excellence model when interacting with patients, client, and guests.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by adherence to hospital and departmental annual training commitments.
  • Participates in self-development by attending mandatory in-services and educational programs appropriate to the goals and needs of the department.

  • Maintains all records and reports to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and codes.
  • Maintains compliance with all requirements of Federal, State and local regulations and guidelines including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by manager.
