About The Position

The Phlebotomist/Lab Aide Certified is a full-time position with variable 10-hour shifts. This role serves a diverse patient population, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn patients, as well as facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and the general public. The position requires flexibility to work scheduled hours, including holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call duties. Employees are expected to participate in emergencies and community disasters as designated disaster service workers. The role also involves an affirmative duty to report perceived misconduct and requires the ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of certified training and instruction as outlined in the California Code of Regulations required.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Able to communicate effectively.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages if required.
• Must have and maintain a California Certified Phlebotomy Technician certificate.
• Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.

Nice To Haves

• Six (6) months certified phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Computer data entry skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
• Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs.
• Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.
• Performs, accurately labels, and promptly delivers routine and advanced venipuncture, capillary, and urine collections.
• Performs accurate patient identification and computerized clerical duties as appropriate.
• Maintains organized, well-stocked, neat and clean work area.
• Able to use phone/FAX.
• Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
