The Phlebotomist II obtains blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present for laboratory testing. In doing so, obtains needed supplies, verifies patient identification, prepares skin sites, and performs venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens and transports same to laboratory for analysis. This position works independently and as a part of a team, performs clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory, and provides timely specimen collection and routing of laboratory specimens. Maintains professional relationship with patients, staff, and physicians. Duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift. In the absence of a Lead, the Phlebotomist II may assist department leadership by performing essential lead role responsibilities. May assist in determining work priorities, may prepare daily work assignments, and may serve as a resource person for personnel resolving operational and patient care problems.
