About The Position

This role involves assisting with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The Phlebotomist II is responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the collection process clearly and courteously, and accurately labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required. The position also involves checking test requisitions against scripts for accuracy, packaging specimens for transport, and storing them at the required temperature.

Requirements

  • Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, and centrifuging specimens.
  • Experience recording maintenance data and decontamination.
  • Experience updating patient information.
  • Ability to demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Full understanding of physician orders.
  • Ability to match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

  • Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature.
