About The Position

Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Operates with a moderate level of supervision, identifying and resolving common issues independently. Provides effective training and education to new employees and students as assigned. This role involves patient care and requires obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups. It ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens. The role may also assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting. Effective communication with patients and patient care teams is essential, explaining procedures and addressing concerns to ensure high customer satisfaction. The Phlebotomist II will troubleshoot and resolve specimen, order, and common operational issues, and provide training and education to new staff and students. Handling sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements is crucial for safety. The role requires proficiency with computer programs and systems and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Other tests, administrative duties, and specimen collection as assigned are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Experience in phlebotomy 1-2 years required
Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
Demonstrates problem-solving skills and can manage complex patient collections.
Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering a collaborative work environment and respecting individuals with varied experiences and perspectives.
