Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a phlebotomy course from an accredited school of health-related professions required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of six (6) months of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
  • Certification by ASCP, NCA, or an equivalent agency preferred; candidates eligible to sit for the certification exam must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood specimens using proper patient identification procedures and appropriate collection techniques (venipuncture, fingerstick, heel stick).
  • Ensures specimen integrity by following correct handling, labeling, and documentation protocols in accordance with laboratory standards.
  • Performs routine and special procedures, including glucose tolerance testing and blood culture collections, accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintains accurate records by entering and verifying orders and specimen information in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and documenting uncollected samples as required.
  • Adheres to infection control and safety protocols, including proper hand hygiene and standard precautions.
  • Provides excellent patient care and communication, explaining procedures and ensuring a positive experience for patients of all ages
