About The Position

The Phlebotomist I obtains blood and other specimens for laboratory testing, supports patient registration and test ordering, and prepares specimens for transport. The role requires professional, courteous patient interactions and compliance with patient-identification, privacy, safety, regulatory, and laboratory procedures. The individual must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation; reasonable accommodation may be provided to qualified individuals with disabilities.

Follow patient-identification and HIPAA requirements, laboratory procedures, and safety and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

Obtain blood specimens per laboratory orders through venipunctures and heel sticks.
Collect and handle other specimens, including urine, stool, and sputum.
Obtain nose swabs for COVID testing.
Communicate with and assist patients in a professional and courteous manner.
Identify patients and access the correct patient record using at least two forms of identification while observing HIPAA requirements.
Enter or update patient demographics through the ADM registration module and order tests using correct mnemonics accurately and promptly.
Complete laboratory requisition forms, produce appropriate labels, and prepare specimens for transport according to specific handling requirements.
Order and maintain adequate laboratory supplies, including checking for expired supplies.
Clean the draw station daily and maintain records and equipment.
Follow policies, standard operating procedures, regulatory guidelines, and safety guidelines.
Work independently or in a team environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
