About The Position

This position is more than a phlebotomy job; it's a commitment to service, teamwork, and accountability. The Phlebotomist I is responsible for obtaining blood and other specimens for laboratory testing according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present. This includes obtaining necessary supplies, verifying patient identification, preparing skin sites, and performing venipuncture and skin punctures using aseptic techniques. The role also involves labeling specimens and transporting them to the laboratory for analysis. The Phlebotomist I works both independently and as part of a team, performing clerical and/or computer duties related to the laboratory, and ensuring timely specimen collection and routing. Maintaining professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians is also a key aspect of this role. Duties may vary based on the assigned area and/or shift.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented

Nice To Haves

  • CPR Certification through the American Heart Association
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT)
  • 6 months in a team orientated environment or customer service role
  • Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months’ full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic
  • Positive, professional attitude and demeanor
  • Maintain composure while working under pressure; ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions

Responsibilities

  • Obtains blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present for laboratory testing
