About The Position

The Phlebotomy Technician II reports to the Laboratory Manager. Under general supervision, the Phlebotomy Technician II plans and provides phlebotomy services for patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position functions as an experienced member of the phlebotomy team and provides instruction to students/new employees in accordance with the scope of a phlebotomist. The Phlebotomy Technician II is responsible for preparing patients for blood collection, collecting blood from patients, ensuring accurate labeling, and delivering this blood to the laboratory for testing.

Requirements

  • Completion of phlebotomy training or equivalent education.
  • Ability to learn and apply phlebotomy techniques in a clinical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on patient care and comfort.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to strict procedural guidelines.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 6 months phlebotomy experience required.
  • Completed Accredited Phlebotomy Certificate Course.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for blood collection, ensuring the correct techniques are used in obtaining blood specimens.
  • Accurately label blood samples and deliver them to the laboratory for timely testing.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of phlebotomy services.
  • Provide high-quality phlebotomy services while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity to patient needs.
  • Demonstrate continued development in phlebotomy techniques, with a focus on skill acquisition and the refinement of knowledge.
  • Exhibit behavior consistent with the Standards of Behavior as outlined by the Medical University Hospital Authority, including professionalism, teamwork, and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Perform phlebotomy tasks under the guidance and supervision of more experienced phlebotomists. While independent practice is a goal, initial work will be supervised until a competent level of practice is achieved.
