About The Position

Phlebotomist collects biological specimens for analysis in the clinical laboratory. Also, assists with general laboratory operations as needed and directed by the laboratory supervisor. Phlebotomist should be able to collect both skin and venipuncture specimens, proficiently demonstrate competency in collection of neonates, infants, adolescents, young adults, adults, and geriatric patients, verifying patient identification and specimen requirements, completing all documentation and delivering in a timely manner to the appropriate laboratory personnel. Must be able to organize and prioritize workload. Perform accurate order entry to include reference labs documentation, scanning, answering phones and other clerical task as needed for general laboratory operations. Must maintain a clean and organized work area.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in both venous and capillary specimen collections.
  • National Phlebotomy Association certification.
  • American Society of Phlebotomist certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Must be able to follow oral & written directions.
  • Computer skills are required for communication, documentation in the electronic health record, and other programs for use in activities.
  • Moderate eye-hand coordination.
  • Moderate amount of mobility and dexterity to perform duties.
  • Knowledgeable and competent to perform essential functions.
  • Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions.
  • High amount of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Present up to date physical examination showing freedom from communicable diseases, and in good health and physical condition.
  • Minimal lifting requirements of forty (40) to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Minimal exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and body fluids and chemical products.
  • Must meet minimum requirements of the performance standards outlined in the criteria-based evaluation form.
  • Must meet minimum physical requirements as outlined in this job description.
  • Must meet education and experience requirements as outlined in this job description.
