About The Position

Carter BloodCare is expanding its dynamic team of Phlebotomists and is seeking individuals who are passionate about helping others, committed to delivering the highest care and customer service to our donors, and willing to continue their professional development. This role is a lead position in the safe collection of blood products. Responsibilities include facilitating donor flow, assessing donor eligibility, and delivering top-notch customer service while ensuring compliance with regulations. This opportunity will include leading your team’s daily functions and using effective problem-solving to resolve any personnel or donor concerns. You will also have an opportunity to participate in annual leadership/development training and guide new team members. Regular full-time attendance during operation hours is important to keep everything running smoothly. The training schedule for external candidates can last up to nine weeks, with varying days and hours depending on mobile drives or Donor Centers’ hours, potentially including early mornings, late nights, and weekends. After training, the standard schedule is variable to meet the needs of donors and the community, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules are provided 3 weeks in advance. Locations include Mobile Collections (traveling from Bedford, TX to designated blood drives) and Donor Centers within North, Central, or East Texas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of general work experience OR comparable education in the medical field, such as an internship or externship
  • Customer service experience
  • Prior phlebotomy, blood banking, or medical field experience
  • Prior experience in a highly regulated industry
  • Ability to move about the work area to handle donors and access equipment, including standing, sitting, walking, and working in confined spaces and narrow aisles
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs/steps daily to enter and exit the transport vehicles to the blood drive location as well as the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend in order to set up blood collection equipment and access the equipment during use
  • Must be able to communicate with donors in order to obtain medical history and monitor the donor during donation, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Ability to move and set up the blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily and partner carry all items over 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds, as well as periodically assist donors who are experiencing a reaction (Donor Center Phlebotomists)
  • Ability to move and set up the blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily and regularly partner carry all items over 25 pounds and up to 120 pounds, as well as periodically assist donors who are experiencing a reaction (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists)
  • Frequently load and unload vehicles, may be required to daily push carts/ dollies weighing up to approximately 250 lbs, handling many types of equipment and cases, and perform these functions in all types of weather conditions, including adverse weather conditions (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists)
  • Flexibility to work irregular shifts, long hours, and adapt to frequent schedule changes
  • Exposed to potentially infectious blood and blood products on a daily basis
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing environment including changing processes/procedures and work effectively in high stress situations
  • Normal vision requirements which include ability to see close and distant objects, adjust focus, distinguish colors, and judge distance
  • Regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals including bleach
