About The Position

Carter BloodCare is expanding its dynamic team of Phlebotomists and has openings for Phlebotomists on its Mobile Collections and donor center teams. This role is essential to the procurement process of safe and quality blood products. Mobile Collections teams travel to different locations for blood drives, while Donor Center teams are located throughout North, Central and East Texas, offering opportunities to build relationships with regular donors. This is an opportunity for individuals passionate about helping others, committed to delivering the highest care and customer service to donors, and willing to learn, with no prior experience required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of general work experience OR comparable education in the medical field, such as an internship or externship.
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to move about the work area to handle donors and access equipment, including standing, sitting, walking, stooping and working in confined spaces and narrow aisles.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs/steps to enter and exit transport vehicles.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend to set up and access equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with donors to obtain medical history and monitor them during donation.
  • Ability to move and set up blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily.
  • Ability to partner carry all items over 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds (Donor Center Phlebotomists).
  • Ability to partner carry all items over 25 pounds and up to 120 pounds (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists).
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense in performing job.
  • Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by communicating professionally.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing environment including changing processes/procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in high stress situations.
  • Normal vision requirements include ability to see close and distant objects, adjust focus, distinguish colors, and judge distance.
  • Regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals, including bleach.

Responsibilities

  • Personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand the impact of their donation.
  • Collaborate with teammates to create a friendly environment for volunteer donors.
  • Ensure collected blood meets regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
  • Work with the team to move, set up, and take down equipment at mobile blood drives.
  • Load and unload vehicles, push carts/dollies, and handle equipment and cases in various weather conditions (Mobile Collections Phlebotomists).
  • Assist donors who are experiencing a reaction.
  • Communicate with donors to obtain medical history and monitor them during donation.
  • Exchange accurate information in various communication methods (spoken word, email, text, written report).
