The Philanthropic Advisor (PhAd) is responsible for introducing and familiarizing the Eastern Oregon region (Baker, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa counties and the Confederated Tribe of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and Burns Paiute Tribes) with the work carried out by OCF. Partnering with OCF Colleagues, this position will perform strategic community outreach and cultivate and steward relationships with donors, prospective donors, nonprofit partners and professional advisors, volunteers and community leaders.

Requirements

  • Six years’ experience as a development, major gift and/or planned giving officer; licensed attorney, preferably in estate planning or tax area(s); Certified Financial Planner; Certified Public Accountant; or Bank Trust Officer working in trust administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Understanding of planned giving opportunities, including life income gifts and bequests.
  • General knowledge of current laws and policies impacting gift planning.
  • Familiarity with local philanthropy along with the regional individual and business wealth is preferred.
  • Lived experiences, relationships, and extensive knowledge in and of the Eastern Oregon region.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to present to individuals and groups, ability to articulate the mission of OCF and discuss philanthropic projects in detail.
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to provide effective outreach, develop and maintain relationships, and work collaboratively with others to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and experience working independently, proactively identifying or initiating ways to enhance a process, procedure or outcome that benefits OCF.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and a high volume of work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical skills: able to think critically, apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donors and their records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, integrated databases, and project management software.
  • Cultural agility skills necessary to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals and communities.
  • Demonstrate experience in equity, bridging and belonging.
  • Ability to travel and meet with individuals and groups within the region as necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an innovative, proactive approach to attract, build relationships with, and engage with donors and prospective donors, including potential nonprofit endowment partners, to educate them about charitable options and create donor-centered gift plans, including the drafting of fund agreements and related documents, to reach their philanthropic goals in a manner consistent with OCF’s mission, best practices, and policies.
  • Create and manage stewardship plans to support a portfolio of existing donors including those who have named OCF in their estate.
  • Develop and maintain contact and communication with the region’s financial and legal professionals regarding current and planned giving opportunities available through OCF.
  • Be knowledgeable about current federal and state tax policy matters that relate to OCF’s planned giving activities and advise on recent changes to these policies.
  • Advance OCF’s strategic initiatives.
  • Plan and lead events–including public speaking where appropriate–to support prospective and existing donor engagement.
  • Engage in special projects as assigned.
  • Document in database all contacts and engagement with prospects, donors, professional advisors, and others as appropriate.
  • Lead and support designated regional outreach activities and manage outreach budget.
  • Engage, manage, and steward the regional OCF board director, as necessary.
  • Lead or support recruiting, nominating, orienting, and stewarding Leadership Council members and assist with planning and carrying out Council meetings along with members of staff team and regional board member.
  • Serve as a contact in designated regions for community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and elected officials.
  • Partner with OCF Marketing and Communications Department, contractors, and regional team to capitalize on social media and public relations opportunities.
  • Participate in statewide efforts to advance branch and department priorities as appropriate.
