Management Level Definition Individual contributor in a supervised internship or research assignment. Performs defined research, analytical, technical, or project-related work while developing professional and specialized skills. Work may involve collaboration with experienced professionals, independent task execution, and contributions to project deliverables. Does not have people-management responsibility. Impact/Scope: PhD students participating in a research-focused internship during their academic studies or scheduled academic breaks. Interns apply advanced research, analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills to defined projects, prototypes, proofs of concept, or strategic initiatives. Work is performed under the guidance of experienced researchers or technical professionals and may contribute to publications, patents, intellectual property, or product-related innovation. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Relevant research, programming, data analysis, or applied project experience is preferred.
  • Strong academic background with a passion for research and a desire to contribute to the advancement of knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages and tools, such as Python, R, or other specialized software and equipment as applicable to the field.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and methodologies, including statistical analysis software.
  • Time management skills and working with strict deadlines.
  • A collaborative, solution focused mindset and overall sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and explore emerging research areas, translating conceptual ideas into working prototypes or proofs of concept.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of research methodologies, data collection, and analysis.
  • Develop and implement algorithms and models: Apply techniques in areas like deep learning, natural language processing, and advanced analytics to develop innovative solutions.
  • Partner with researchers, engineers, and product managers to align research initiatives with product vision.
  • Clearly present research progress, findings, and technical insights to various stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed records of research procedures, methodologies, and outcomes, and prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings.
  • Depending on the project, research results may lead to external publications or intellectual property.
