About The Position

Monash University is offering a fully funded, research-based PhD scholarship at the School of Education and Culture, Faculty of Education, in Melbourne. The successful candidate will join researchers across Australia on the Australian Research Council-funded project “Hitting the Limits: Intersectional sexisms in Australian universities.” The PhD project will examine LGBTIQA+ academics’ institutional locations, experiences, and private and professional sources of support within Australian universities. Candidates are encouraged to develop their own research project addressing the topic, including academics’ disciplinary and geographical locations, whether they feel welcome in their workplaces, and the support mechanisms or strategies they draw on in their private and professional lives. The broader project examines how intersectionality, gender, power, and complexity shape universities and the conditions that limit social cohesion in relation to gender. The successful applicant will join the research community at Monash’s School of Education and Culture and connect with students and experts in Australia and internationally. The scholarship is for a 3.5-year fixed-term appointment, with full-time, on-campus enrolment. The successful applicant is expected to enrol by February 2027, although some flexibility in the commencement date may be possible.
