About The Position

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Central Pharmacy. This role involves preparing and distributing routine dosage orders, prepackaging pharmaceuticals, and preparing sterile compounds as directed. The technician will measure, mix, count, label, and record dosages and prescriptions, and assist pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Registration for Pharmacy Technician or Student-Controlled Substance with the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy.
• Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescribed medications.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills.
• Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions by counting, packaging, labeling, pricing, and filing medications under supervision.
• Adds measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous (IV) solutions under sterile conditions to prepare IV packs under supervision.
• Participates in regulatory documentation and daily processes specific to the area.
• Maintains appropriate stock levels and informs the supervisor of stock needs and shortages; cleans and helps maintain equipment and work areas according to established procedures.
• Accesses patient profiles and electronic health records as needed to accomplish assigned tasks; participates in medication-related charge documentation and submission activities.
