About The Position

Advanced Houston Specialty Hospital is looking for a part-time Pharmacy Technician to work at our newly renovated facility. This role plays a vital part in ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication services to an incarcerated population, while maintaining compliance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines. The Pharmacy Technician supports the preparation and distribution of medications and related functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in a secure correctional healthcare setting.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Current Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required
Minimum 1 year hospital pharmacy experience is required
IV certification required
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements to include physical agility test and pass an annual background check.

Responsibilities

Prepare, package, and label medications for dispensing as prescribed, under pharmacist supervision
Process medication orders using institutional pharmacy software
Maintain accurate inventory of medications, supplies, and controlled substances
Deliver and restock medication carts or cabinets within the facility housing units or medical areas
Handle returns, destructions, and expired medications in compliance with protocols
Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy work area
Communicate effectively with healthcare staff, custody officers, and patients as needed
Adhere to strict security protocols at all times
Document and report medication discrepancies, shortages, or incidents per policy
Participate in quality assurance, audits, and compliance procedures
Perform other duties as assigned within his/her scope of work as determined by management.
