About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, dispenses medications and maintains the inventory, supplies, and organization of the pharmacy according to all regulatory, accrediting, and facility standards. This role is PRN (as needed).

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with medical and administrative staff as well as patients and families in an assertive, professional manner.
  • Basic understanding of the role and use of a computer in the processing of prescription orders with word processing skills.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good math and science skills.
  • Good stress coping skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Fill orders with correct medications.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and automated dispensing machines accurately and timely.
  • Procure pharmaceutical and related supplies by contractual terms.
  • Maintain appropriate pharmacy inventory levels.
  • Prepare pharmaceutical preparations including unit-dosing medication and properly labeling any dispensed medications.
  • Process records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, compute charges, and enter data into computers.
  • Generate required reports (e.g., pick list, expiring medications).
  • Maintain temperature and environmental monitoring logs appropriately.
  • Prioritize work (e.g., stats made first).
  • Restock shelves and rotate stock.
  • Properly dispose of non-recyclable items.
  • Maintain refrigerator temperature and other quality assurance logs.
  • Receive and store incoming supplies.
  • Count stock and enter data in computer to maintain inventory records.
  • Return medications to stock and rotate stock.
  • Organize and maintain pharmacy-related documents.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary pharmacy department.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy to ensure department needs are met and departmental goals are achieved.
  • Maintain security of the pharmacy.
  • Maintain security of controlled substances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
