About The Position

This is a temporary, full-time (40 hours/week) assignment estimated to last from August to October, dependent on business needs. While the assignment is with the Alliance, the employee will be hired through a temporary employment agency. The role involves assisting the Pharmacy Department with issue resolution and communications related to medication coordination, reviewing and processing prior authorization requests for physician-administered drugs, and ensuring the accuracy and timely review of member and provider correspondence.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general pharmacy prior authorization process
  • Knowledge of computerized drug programs and standard format of National Drug Codes (NDC)
  • Knowledge of drugs and supplies utilized in the operation of a pharmacy
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with Windows based PC systems and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, maintain accurate records, and utilize effective organizational skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize internal and external software programs
  • Ability to read, understand, and transcribe pharmaceutical information
  • Current, valid license in good standing as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy
  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician (an Associate’s degree may substitute for one year of the required experience); or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Pharmacy Department with internal and external issue resolution and communications requiring specialized pharmacy technical ability and expertise related to medication coordination
  • Reviews and processes prior authorization requests for physician-administered drugs, which includes intake, triage, and associated correspondence, using established criteria
  • Ensures accuracy and performs timely review of member and provider correspondence
