About The Position

This position will staff in Emory Healthcare's Specialty Pharmacy located at Emory University Hospital Midtown. This position will play an integral role in supporting our day-to-day specialty pharmacy operations and ensuring patients are getting their specialty medications in a safe and timely manner. Applicants must be available to work 8am-5pm during pharmacy hours (typical shifts 8am-430pm or 830am-5pm). Applicants that have some experience working within a retail or specialty pharmacy are preferred (both traditional retail or hospital outpatient pharmacy).

Requirements

Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

Nice To Haves

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
Some experience working within a retail or specialty pharmacy (both traditional retail or hospital outpatient pharmacy).

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, procures, prepares, packages, distributes and disposes medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
Properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.
Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.
Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.
Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous prod.
Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
