About The Position

Assists the pharmacist s with support activities and processes related to medication distribution within the hospital. Receives medication and other supplies for storage. Stocks Automated Medication Dispensing Cabinets (AMDCs) or areas where medications are stored. Prepares, packages, and labels medications to be dispensed to patients. Compounds non-sterile products according to USP <795> standards. Compounds non-sterile products according to USP <79 7 > standards. Shows compliance with receiving and handling of hazardous drugs according to USP <800> standards. Demonstrates computer proficiency with software related to dispensing of medications. Additional pharmacy technician duties such as audits, inventory maintenance, and charge processing may be expected at the discretion of the Director of Pharmacy.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent or enrolled in high school.
  • Current Tennessee Pharmacy Technician registration within 90 days of employment.
  • Basic math calculations and computer skills.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with fellow associates.
  • Clear and effective communication.
  • Self-motivated, diligent, attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent national certification board is encouraged.
  • An individual enrolled in, or a graduate of a recognized school or college of pharmacy is defined as a “pharmacy intern” (TAC 63-10-204) and exempt from this registration requirement.
  • Prior pharmacy technician experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
