About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The technician maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role involves properly operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, and ensuring Pharmacist product verification and timely distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Accurate record-keeping and patient profile maintenance, including charging and crediting, are essential. The technician responds timely to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. They understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care. This role also assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are conducted. Competency is maintained and departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines are followed for safe and accurate handling, preparation, distribution, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participation in professional activities and organizations is encouraged to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. All required training and competency assessments are completed in a timely fashion, and educational in-services are attended as appropriate. The technician assists in the orientation and training of new personnel and may serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure efficient, quality service. Other duties may be assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
