About The Position

Under general supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, this role dispenses non-controlled pharmaceuticals (drugs, medications, and medical supplies) that require a prescription to Health Department Clinical sites. The Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division emphasizes the importance of employee accessibility during public health emergencies, with all staff required to respond to mobilization calls and potentially modified work hours. This position is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy and supporting clinical sites with necessary medications and supplies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Registered with the State of Tennessee Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) at the time of hire or obtain certification within three (3) months of date of hire.
• Knowledge of federal, state, county, and Health Department laws, rules, regulations, protocol, policies, and procedures related to the dispensing of legend drugs, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and devices.
• Knowledge of pharmacy administration policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of record keeping/file maintenance methods and practices.
• Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
• Knowledge of customer service/public relations practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of medication dispensing including names of common medications.
• Skill in accurately and safely dispensing legend and over-the-counter medications, medical supplies, and devices.
• Skill in utilizing written communication in the development of reports and maintenance of records/files.
• Skill in maintaining and updating computer databases.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Skill in effectively communicating in both oral and written form.

Nice To Haves

• Additional training or certifications depending on assignment.
• Completion of HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) prior to operating a County-owned vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacist with receiving, inventory management, and distribution of drugs and vaccines.
• Receive requests for vaccines or medications from Health Department Clinics.
• Pre-pack drugs for distribution to Health Department Clinics in a timely and accurate manner.
• Conduct routine inventories at clinic sites and/or deliver medications upon request.
• Maintain records, files, and logs.
• Enter information into a computerized database system for tracking, updating, and compliance requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the pharmacist within the pharmacy or at clinic sites.
