About The Position

This role aids pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of patient medications, including sterile products, TPNs, non-sterile medications, hazardous medications, and ADC medications and supplies. The technician ensures these medications are delivered to nursing units and may train new technicians, transporters, or pharmacy interns. Key responsibilities include demonstrating knowledge of USP 795, 797, and 800 standards, completing documentation, filling and delivering medication carts, restocking pharmacy areas, and inspecting for expired medications. The role also involves assisting pharmacists with new medication orders, answering phones, providing accurate handoffs, and participating in training and peer review.

Requirements

  • Board of Pharmacy Technician License (Registered or Certified) or Technician Trainee with expectation to become registered or certified within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification by examination as a pharmacy technician (CPhT, ExCPT).
  • Competency on pharmacy technologies.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Patient-centered.
  • Strong moral character.

  • Six months of previous pharmacy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense patient medications, sterile products, TPNs, non-sterile medications, hazardous medications, and ADC medications and supplies.
  • Ensure the delivery of medications to nursing units.
  • Train new technicians, transporters, or pharmacy interns.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with USP 795, 797, and 800 standards and other regulatory requirements for safe and accurate preparation of medications.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly documentation of tasks.
  • Fill unit-dose medication carts for daily delivery.
  • Deliver unit-dose medication carts on time and according to workflow.
  • Restock pharmacy work areas, pharmacy satellites, and ADCs with medications and supplies.
  • Inspect medication storage areas for expired or unusable medications.
  • Assist pharmacists in processing new medication orders.
  • Answer phones.
  • Provide accurate, safe, effective handoff to other team members.
  • Participate in training new employees.
  • Participate in the peer review process.
