About The Position

Cancer Specialists of North Florida is seeking an experienced Retail Pharmacy Technician for their busy Northside Office. This role involves performing technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medical preparation, distribution, record-keeping, and inventory control. Key tasks include verifying patient information and physician authorization, calculating dosages, and supporting both retail and IV medication processes. The technician may assist with compounding or admixing medications under supervision, with on-the-job training provided for IV compounding and aseptic technique skills. All duties are subject to final verification by a pharmacist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of three years in a pharmacy
  • Florida registered technician

Nice To Haves

  • I.V. skills preferred
  • I.V. certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform data entry, prescription labeling, and retrieval of patient and prescription records
  • Verify patient information, medication orders, and physician authorization for completeness and accuracy
  • Calculate dosages, including conversions between metric and apothecary systems (subject to pharmacist verification)
  • Count, weigh, measure, and prepare medications, including controlled substances
  • Assist with the preparation and calculations of medication orders, including compounding or admixing medications under supervision, when needed and following on-the-job training
  • Support retail pharmacy operations in accordance with policies and procedures, including maintenance of the Will Call bin.
  • Notify patients when prescriptions are available for pick up.
  • Serve as provider delegate by obtaining REMS authorizations as required.
  • Initiate communication with patients or providers to clarify prescription details, refill authorizations, or missing information
  • Properly clean and maintain equipment, including laminar flow hoods and clean room environments
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of materials used in medication preparation, including IV and chemotherapy supplies
  • Maintain logs and documentation, including temperature logs, lot numbers, controlled substance counts, and patient assistance programs
  • Monitor medications for expiration dates and maintain accurate inventory levels; receive and stock medications
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, meetings, and ongoing training
  • Maintain current drug information and MSDS sheets
  • Complete required pharmacy checklists and documentation
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and medical staff information
  • Perform other technical, administrative, or support duties as assigned under pharmacist supervision
