About The Position

Walgreens Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices work in a patient-centric pharmacy environment, interacting with customers and building patient relationships. Walgreens provides an earn-while-you-learn training program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor, with courses, learning activities, resources, and on-the-job experience intended to prepare participants for Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification and a pharmacy technician career. Under the pharmacist’s direct supervision and in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies, the Pharmacy Technician assists in pharmacy practice and department operations. The role uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, supports customer service, inventory, workflow, and clinical services, and maintains required certification and continuing education.

Requirements

Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prior work experience with Walgreens.
Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Good computer skills.
Knowledge of store inventory control.
PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions accurately.
Engage customers and patients, offer assistance, resolve issues, answer questions, and provide a positive customer experience.
Model customer service best practices and develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
Enter patient and drug information; retrieve, count, and pour medications; verify prescriptions; and check for possible interactions.
Assist pharmacists with scheduling and maintaining workflow.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow pharmacy error and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
Follow the company’s Good Faith Dispensing policy during applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register sales, operate the assigned cash register, and collect and handle cash as required.
Assist customers in locating over-the-counter products when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform assigned clerical duties.
Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; handle claims involving overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
Assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples when required, and coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
Help develop and maintain relationships with local medical providers and health organizations through provider outreach and detailing.
Maintain the Pharmacy Department’s supplies, cleanliness, neatness, and orderly appearance.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or required state certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend manager-requested training, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain pharmacy and healthcare knowledge.
